Cancer marker CA 125 (ovarian)

It is used to diagnose and monitor the effectiveness of treatment in ovarian cancer.

Cancer marker CA 125 (ovarian)
study
– A laboratory marker of ovarian cancer for prevention, assessing the success of surgical treatment or monitoring the course of the disease. Cancer marker CA 125 (ovarian)
test
is one of the best oncological markers, useful for both primary diagnosis and follow-up of ovarian cancer patients.

Ovarian cancer marker
rises in the blood in cervical, colorectal, breast and lung cancers. The index may also rise in benign gynaecological diseases. Serum levels of this antigen also increase during normal pregnancy and menstruation. The higher the concentration of the indicator, the larger the tumour or metastasis. A decrease in the concentration of a marker is associated with a positive effect of treatment.

What you need to know:

  • CA 125 is recommended for women with a family history of breast or ovarian cancer who have mutations in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes.
  • The test sometimes detects cancer at stage I, in very rare cases, but may not be elevated at stage IV.
