Testosterone

Testosterone levels in women’s bodies may indicate the development of certain tumours. It may be reduced in cirrhosis, when treated with oestrogens, and in marked obesity.

In women, testosterone is tested for signs of male pattern – increased body hair, change in shape. In men, the test is recommended if there is a delayed development of the musculature, no mutation of the voice or body hair, and a delayed development and growth of the penis and testicles. A decrease in testosterone levels can be a cause of infertility.

Testosterone (TESTO) is the most important androgen (male sex hormone) found in the blood. The hormone determines masculine characteristics in men, but it is also present in women’s bodies (low levels). In women, testosterone is tested for signs of male pattern – increased body hair, change in shape. For men, the test is recommended if there is a delayed development of the muscles, no voice or body hair after puberty (after about 20 years of age), and a delayed development and growth of the penis and testicles. A drop in testosterone levels can be the cause of male infertility.
