Frequently asked questions
When should I consult a family doctor remotely while travelling abroad?
Most common illnesses, minor health issues and general health-related concerns can be addressed remotely just as effectively and to the same standard as during an in-person doctor’s visit.
You can register for a remote family doctor consultation if:
• you feel unwell while travelling abroad;
• you have health-related symptoms, complaints or an acute illness (e.g. sore throat, cold, fever, dizziness, weakness, urinary tract infection, etc.);
• you have a non-urgent medical issue that does not require a physical examination;
• you need medicines to be prescribed or an e-prescription to be issued or renewed;
• you wish to reduce the risk of exposure to additional viruses or infectious diseases, especially during seasonal outbreaks, epidemics or pandemics;
• you want to avoid having to search for a medical institution in a foreign country;
• your condition makes it difficult to physically visit a medical institution.
Are these consultations reimbursed under Travel Insurance?
Yes. If you are abroad and register for a remote consultation due to a health issue requiring urgent medical assistance, the cost of the remote consultation will be reimbursed in accordance with the Travel Insurance terms, under the medical expenses insurance option.
IMPORTANT: reimbursement applies only to remote family doctor consultations during which, at the doctor’s discretion, medicines may be prescribed (including the issuance or renewal of an e-prescription), referrals to other medical specialists may be issued upon return to Lithuania, or referrals or recommendations for diagnostic tests may be provided, if such tests are necessary based on the patient’s medical condition and health indications.
Can I consult a family doctor remotely for preventive purposes? Are such consultations reimbursed?
Remote consultations for preventive purposes are not reimbursed under the Travel Insurance terms, as they do not constitute urgent medical assistance and are therefore not treated as an insured event.
Can e-prescriptions for medicines be issued or renewed during a remote consultation?
Yes. During a remote consultation, medicines may be prescribed at the doctor’s discretion by issuing a new e-prescription or renewing an existing one, where this is medically necessary based on the patient’s current health condition.
However, e-prescriptions cannot be issued remotely for psychotropic medicines, narcotic analgesics, benzodiazepines, named-patient medicines, reimbursed medicines, or any medicines that may not be prescribed remotely under the procedure established by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania.
An e-prescription issued during a remote consultation is uploaded to the patient’s e-health account. The e-prescription is valid in all European Union countries. In non-EU countries, it may be shown to a pharmacist as a document indicating the prescribed active substance, based on which the pharmacist may offer an equivalent medicine.
How do I pay for remote consultations?
Insured persons must first pay for remote family doctor consultation services using their own funds, i.e. payment must be made when the service is ordered. Then, no later than within 30 calendar days, the event must be reported and a request for reimbursement of the incurred expenses must be submitted.
This can be done easily and conveniently via:
- the Lietuvos draudimas mobile app. Information on how to download the app can be found here;
- the Lietuvos draudimas self-service portal at www.savasld.lt. After logging in, the request form can be found under My Claims -> Claim Registration -> Travel Expenses (Travel Insurance).

• a bank transfer statement in the name of the insured person confirming that the remote consultation was paid for;
• medical documents – it is sufficient to attach screenshots from your e-health account showing the doctor’s consultation record. The screenshots must clearly show the name of the medical institution, your name and surname, the reason for the consultation, the diagnosis and the prescribed treatment.
Can the remote consultation service be paid for directly by Lietuvos draudimas?
No. When ordering this service, you must first pay for it using your own funds. After the consultation has taken place, and no later than within 30 calendar days, you must report the event by submitting a travel insurance claim / request for reimbursement of expenses.
