Frequently asked questions
When should I see a family doctor remotely?
Most everyday illnesses or health issues can be solved remotely as efficiently and qualitatively as during a live visit to the doctor.
You can register for a remote family doctor consultation:
- having health-related disorders, complaints or acute illnesses (for example: sore throat, cold, fever, dizziness or weakness, urinary tract infection, etc.);
- for non-urgent medical problems that do not require a physical examination;
- in case of disability while traveling abroad;
- regarding the appointment of medicines, the issuance and extension of an e-prescription;
- to avoid a possible encounter with additional viruses or infectious diseases (especially during the period of seasonal diseases in the case of declared epidemics or pandemics);
- if the condition makes it difficult to physically attend the treatment facility.
Are reimbursed drugs prescribed?
Reimbursed drugs are not prescribed.
Can I get a consultation if I am uninsured?
Those who do not have insurance can also consult.
Can a sick leave be issued during a remote consultation?
The remote consulting doctor, who assesses the general situation and condition of the patient and based on the cases regulated by the orders of the Minister of the Republic of Lithuania (e.g. acute upper respiratory diseases such as flu, Covid, colds) decides whether to issue a sick leave or refer the patient for a contact consultation at a treatment facility of the patient’s choice.
Can e-prescriptions for medicines be issued/extended during a remote consultation?
Yes. During a remote consultation, medications can be prescribed by prescribing a new or extending the patient’s existing e-prescription. E-prescriptions for psychotropic, narcotic analgesics, benzodiazepines, branded drugs, reimbursed and all drugs that cannot be prescribed according to the drug prescribing procedure established by the LR SAM are not remotely prescribed/issued.
The e-prescription issued during the remote consultation is placed in the patient’s e-health account. The appointed e-prescription will also be seen by the pharmacist after the patient presents his ID at the pharmacy.
Can I have a consultation if I am not registered at your medical facility?
Yes, you do not need to make an appointment at our treatment facility.
Can I consult if I am not a LT citizen and do not have a personal identification number?
Yes, foreign citizens can also consult.
Is the electronic prescription valid in other countries?
A prescription issued by a doctor in one EU country is valid in all other EU countries. However, drugs prescribed in one country may not be marketed in another country or may have a different name.
Is there a special prescription form that my doctor needs to fill out if I want to use that prescription in another EU country?
NO. The regulations on prescriptions issued abroad only specify what information should be included in the prescription. There is no particular shape or format for the recipe. In most cases, the prescription you would submit in the country where the prescription was issued should already contain enough information for you to use it in another EU country.
You should make sure your doctor gives at least the following information:
- data about the patient – surname and first name (both written in unabridged form) and date of birth;
- date of issuance of the prescription;
- information about the doctor who prescribed the medicine – surname and first name (written in abbreviated form), professional qualifications, direct contact details, workplace address (including country), signature (written or digital);
- information about the prescribed medicine – its generic name (and not the trade name, which may be different in another country), form (tablet, solution, etc.), quantity, strength and dosage.
